Busy in Bayswater for 2021

  • 25 January 2021

The construction team were able to hit the ground running in January after the Development Application to build the new train station at Bayswater received conditional approval by the WA Planning Commission before Christmas.

To make space for the new station and rail lines, some existing cycle paths and roads must be re-routed. This work has already started, with the partial closure of Whatley Crescent and a detour for cyclists.

During construction, Whatley Crescent will operate as a single lane in both directions between King William Street and Garratt Road. The section between Hamilton and King William streets is currently reduced to a single city-bound lane and will permanently close later this year as our team re-routes Whatley Crescent, under a new rail bridge, to connect with Beechboro Road South.

Over the next few months we will begin earthworks to build bridge foundations and will start realigning the new Whatley Crescent. Once completed, these Whatley Crescent changes will ensure traffic can continue moving safely through the town centre – with new parking bays for local shoppers – while promoting walking and cycling.
