Local Aboriginal businesses have benefited from contracts on the Denny Avenue Level Crossing Removal project, with early works for the project underway.

Oaks Civil Construction was started in September 2019 by former AFL footballer Jarrad Oakley and has been awarded an early works contract on the project.

Oaks Civil Construction will deliver civil works associated with the clearing and preparation of the site office, laydown area and car park for the project. They will also to remove traffic islands and backfill utilities on Albany Highway for major service relocation works.

The contract has allowed the company to create employment opportunities, with four full-time Aboriginal employees working on the project.

A number of other Aboriginal businesses have also benefited from the project so far, with lead contractor Downer also awarding contracts to iCADS, Moodjar Consulting, Six Seasons, Boorda and Ballardong Medical.

To date, more than $11 million in contracts have been awarded to Aboriginal businesses on METRONET projects.

Local businesses interested in working on METRONET projects are encouraged to register on our Construction Business Register.
