Denny Avenue Level Crossing Closing Forever

  • 4 March 2021

From April 1, vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists will no longer be able to use the Denny Avenue level crossing and are being directed to alternate crossings until the new underpass is opened shortly after this disruption.

To remove the crossing and complete the new underpass, essential works within the rail corridor are required south of Kelmscott Station.

The Denny Avenue level crossing will be closed for these works, with impacts to surrounding roads and a number of stations on the Armadale Line.

Impacts to drivers, pedestrians and cyclists

Alternative rail crossings will need to be used from 1 April until the new Davis Road underpass opens.

Drivers can cross the rail at:

  • Railway Avenue and Streich Avenue opposite William Turner Reserve (2.4km south).
  • Tonkin Highway from Albany Highway (3.3km north).
  • Tonkin Highway from Corfield Street (3.6km north).

Pedestrians and cyclists can cross the rail at:

  • Kelmscott Station (250m north).
  • Opposite the intersection of Ottaway Street/Streich Avenue and Cammillo Road/Railway Avenue (750m south).

Construction impacts

Works will take place 24 hours a day to ensure work is completed as quickly as possible. Works taking place include:

  • Denny Avenue level crossing will be removed and decommissioned;
  • Nearly 850m of new rail track will be laid;
  • The new Principal Shared Path bridge will be built on the overpass;
  • The remaining piles directly under the existing rail bridge will be constructed;
  • New traffic lights installed, and;
  • Roads will be finished so they are ready for use.

Specific information about night works will be provided to impacted residents and businesses.

Road users can expect significant traffic management around Albany Highway, Railway Avenue, Streich Avenue and Davis Road during works.

Impacts to public transport

There will be impacts to the Armadale Line between Gosnells and Armadale stations. Detailed passenger service information will be available on the Transperth website.
