Morley-Ellenbrook Line route announced

  • 4 August 2019

Premier Mark McGowan and Transport Minister Rita Saffioti have announced the route for METRONET’s long-awaited Morley-Ellenbrook Line.

After shortlisting and detailed consideration of more than 100 possible options, the 21km line will run from the growing Ellenbrook town centre, down the western side of New Lord Street, through land north of Marshall Road and then down the middle of Tonkin Highway connecting at Bayswater Station at the Midland Line.

Five stations will be built at Ellenbrook, Whiteman Park, Malaga, Noranda and Morley, with a station at Bennett Springs East planned as population levels increase and development progresses in the area.

Perth’s north-eastern suburbs is one of Australia’s fastest growing areas with the population expected to almost double to more than 415,000 by 2031.

The train journey from Ellenbrook to the Perth CBD is estimated at 30 minutes, almost half the current travel time for Ellenbrook commuters travelling to the CBD via public transport, with the journey between each station on the Morley-Ellenbrook Line to be between three and five minutes.

The next stage of planning will finalise estimated project costings, design, scope and train/bus operations.

This major investment in public transport will give people in the north-eastern suburbs of Perth a different transport choice, link important employment centres, promote housing diversity and help create thousands of local jobs for our State.

Building public transport infrastructure in the community for the community always requires input from local stakeholders.
