Upcoming disruptions pave the way for more trains and more choice at Claremont Station

  • 18 January 2021

The Claremont Station Project will improve passengers’ experience, increase service frequency during peak times and allow direct access to the future Airport Line.

To allow this to happen, new rail infrastructure called a turnback will be installed so Airport Line trains can drop passengers off at Claremont Station and use the turnbacks to turn around and head back the way they came.

To build the new turnbacks eight weeks of intensive construction activity will take place from 5 February until 5 April 2021.

This will see major service impacts to the Fremantle Line during this work, including:

  • Claremont Station will close and no train services will stop here. Bus services will continue to operate to and from Claremont Station.
  • Several Line closures, with train replacement buses operating. Specific details are found on the Transperth website.
  • Fremantle Line services between Showgrounds and Fremantle stations reduced to a 30-minute frequency with passengers required to change trains at Cottesloe Station (some passengers may also need to change at Showgrounds)

What to expect if you live around the works

Due to the nature of the work being undertaken, works are being completed round the clock in an effort to reduce ongoing impacts on residents, businesses and passengers.

For those living around the works, some disruptions include:

  • Out-of-hours works throughout this time, including Sundays and nightworks, with every effort made to reduce noise during the night and plan noisy work, where possible, during the day.
  • Traffic management and detours at various stages throughout this time. Signs will clearly show the detours and we ask everyone to look out for each other and slow down.
  • Pedestrian shared path impacts to maintain a safe distance between the work site and traffic movements.

Drivers that use roads which follow the Fremantle Line or around local schools in the area may expect increased traffic during this time and should plan their journey accordingly.

Specific impact details will be provided to directly impacted residents, including contact details for the out of hours works.

How can you prepare?

If you’re a regular user of the Fremantle Line, it’s important to be prepared ahead of the eight week period of reduced services. It is recommended to leave up to 30 minutes of extra time to get to your destination.

Depending on where your journey and destination, passengers may find an existing timetabled bus service to be a more convenient travel option – these can be found via the Transperth JourneyPlanner on the website.

Passengers who may be impacted are urged to visit the Transperth website, sign up for My Alerts, download the Transperth app or call the Transperth InfoLine on 13 62 13 for more information.
