Perth’s inner east brings housing vision to life

  • 15 May 2020

Two housing developments walking distance to Bayswater and Meltham stations are now complete.

1 Foyle Road, Bayswater and 292 Guildford Road, Maylands are part of the Department of Communities METRONET Social and Affordable Housing and Jobs Package. These developments provide more affordable housing choices in well-connected communities, with more options to leave their car at home to go to work, shopping, catch a flight from the airport, or meet up with friends.

The Foyle Road development is only 200 metres from the new Bayswater Station, making it a short walk to the Bayswater town centre. The five-level apartment consists of 17 mixed one and two-bedroom apartments, seven which were built to be more accessible to people of varying ages and abilities.  With 15 apartments available for private sale, the development brings housing diversity and affordability to the area and addresses the shortage of appropriate housing for singles, couples and seniors.

Most importantly, future 1 Foyle Road residents will enjoy easy access to major employment hubs and tourism destinations when the Forrestfield-Airport Link and Morley-Ellenbrook Lines connect at the new Bayswater Station.

Early works have already begun on the new Bayswater Station, including January’s move of Bayswater’s iconic Kurrajong tree to Bert Wright Park, key PTA underground service relocation work and additional parking at Ashfield and Meltham stations is almost completed, ahead of the Bayswater Station parking at Whatley Crescent closing later this year.

Final negotiations are underway to award the alliance contract to Evolve Bayswater – Coleman Rail in the coming weeks.

More information on the METRONET Social and Affordable Housing and Jobs Package can be found on the Department of Communities website.
