Pillars take form to reach great heights

  • 9 September 2021

The pillars of the New Bayswater Station have landed onsite after production by local Western Australian company, Delta.

Designed specifically for the new station, the pillars’ cream colour and fluting are the result of extended community consultation to increase aesthetic appeal and blend natural elements from the station’s surrounds.

The pillars will form the ‘bridge’ as part of the station’s elevated rail where Bayswater Station connects with the Morley-Ellenbrook Line. More than half of the 22 pillars required for the station have already been produced, following a series of testing in July.

The pillars vary in height between 2.5 to 3 metres depending on their location, and will be securely anchored on top of piles attached to bedrock 23 metres into the ground.

Specially designed for this purpose, the pillars demonstrate our commitment to quality design, with a fluting pattern to run down the concourse of the New Bayswater Station.

The lighter, cream coloured concrete looks warmer in the sun, and is a variation from regular grey concrete that complements the design of the station and the vibrant tone of the neighbourhood.
