Claremont Station works reflect community feedback - METRONET

Claremont Station works reflect community feedback

  • 21 October 2019

Based on feedback received from the Claremont stakeholders, a new pedestrian overpass at Claremont Station is postponed while more planning is undertaken.

Critical infrastructure, which includes two turnbacks west of Claremont Station, platform upgrades and accessibility and bus connection improvements, will proceed for completion ahead of Forrestfield-Airport Link operations starting.

While these works are underway, the Public Transport Authority team will continue discussions with key stakeholders on the north-south pedestrian and cyclist connections across the rail line.

The original connection design included an overpass 70m east of the current wooden footbridge. Discussions will continue on this overpass’ location and design to ensure it respects the surrounding heritage.

In order to build this critical infrastructure the western pedestrian crossing must be removed. The eastern pedestrian crossing will remain until a new overpass is constructed and the platform lengthened to allow for six-car trains at a later date.

This project, as well as the Forrestfield-Airport Link, will provide those living in and around Claremont Station with a higher level of public transport service.

When the Forrestfield-Airport Link starts running, Claremont Station will have a five-minute service frequency to and from the CBD during peak times.

The new bus facility will better connect the community to the increased train services and provide the capacity to manage rail replacement bus services in the event of planned or unplanned rail closures.
