METRONET helping people to Stay off the Tracks

  • 13 August 2021

This Rail Safety Week (August 9-15) rail operators around Australia and New Zealand are coming together to urge people to prioritise their safety around trains.

A person is killed or injured on the Australian network every 2.5 days, and jumping the pedestrian gates or taking short cuts across the tracks is the most common way people risk their lives on our network.

We’re designing out the risk by removing existing level crossings, in our Victoria Park-Canning Level Crossing Removal and Byford Rail Extension projects, and not creating new ones on projects like the Yanchep Rail Extension, Thornlie-Cockburn Link, Forrestfield-Airport Link, and Morley-Ellenbrook Line. And the Denny Avenue Level Crossing closed forever on April 1.
Instead, crossings will be grade separated with underpasses, bridges, viaducts, and tunnels, to provide connectivity and improve the safety of getting around.
