Students get a sneak peek at their artwork in action

  • 4 August 2025

One week before the METRONET Thornlie-Cockburn Line opening, students from Thornlie Senior High School and Yale Primary School got a sneak peek at their amazing artwork that’s now making a colourful impression at Thornlie Station.

Back in 2023, Year 6 students from Yale Primary School took part in a workshop with Elder Marie Taylor and artists Arif and Audrey Satar that focused on the importance of plants and gardens in Aboriginal culture. The students drew their own dream and bush tucker gardens and these drawings have come to life in the beautiful mural on Thornlie Station’s platform wall.

The children couldn’t wait to find their artwork on the platform wall and student Ruby Glossorp, now in Year 8 at Thornlie Senior High School, was thrilled to see her design. “My artwork shows a lake of black swans. It’s super cool to see it here and I’m really happy and proud,” Ruby said.

Thornlie MP Colleen Egan joined the students for the exciting event that celebrated both the students’ artistic talents and the community spirit that has helped bring the upgraded Thornlie Station to life.
