On Sunday, 8 December, more than 40,000 people joined the celebration to welcome the Ellenbrook Line to Perth’s train network.

The five new stations along the new line were activated with free family fun, food and festivities to mark the completion of the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line Project.
At Morley, Noranda, Ballajura, Whiteman Park, and Ellenbrook stations, the people of Perth enjoyed local food tasters, sausage sizzles, community stalls, a waterslide, live performances, cuddly animals, and the much-loved METRONET showbags.
Families also took part in a Discovery Trail along the line to collect limited-edition station cards and posters to commemorate the occasion.
Project facts - did you know?
- The 21km Ellenbrook Line starts at Bayswater Station and includes new stations at Morley, Noranda, Ballajura, Whiteman Park and Ellenbrook
- 65,000 railway sleepers were used to build the track.
- Two viaducts and three new tunnels were built.
- 14 local and Noongar artists created 20 public art pieces across the five new stations
- Solar panels across all stations are expected to save 65,000+ tonnes of CO2 every year– the same as taking 154,000 cars off the road.
- Commuters from Perth CBD to Ellenbrook will enjoy a 30 minute journey - half the current travel time.
We would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate this exciting milestone in Perth’s rail history!
