From traineeships to long-term careers

  • 4 December 2024

METRONET projects like the Morley-Ellenbrook Line are not just improving public transport across Perth, they are also a gateway to training and long-term job opportunities.

One individual benefiting from these opportunities is Katelyn Thomson - a proud Kija woman who grew up on Whadjuk Noongar land and started a Certificate III in Business Administration on the project in 2022.

As a Site Administrator Trainee with the project’s health and safety team, Katelyn quickly become one of the subject matter experts on critical controls and primary standards for safety protocols in the field.

Through hard work and a passion for health and safety in construction, Katelyn completed her traineeship and accepted a role as Health and Safety Administrator with project contractor, Laing O’Rourke.

“This is a company that truly upholds values that align with my own values of care, integrity and courage, and when working towards project deliverables during my traineeship I found myself implementing these values to drive the success of my career,” Katelyn said.

“The support from my colleagues at the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line Project was nothing like I've experienced before, and I will be forever grateful that this is how my career started.”
