Busy at Bayswater Station - METRONET

Busy at Bayswater Station

  • 13 December 2021

It’s busy at the New Bayswater Station Project, with concrete poured for the first bridge beam. This comes after the first of the fluted pillars that will hold the beams in place was installed.

Designed specifically for the station, 52 individual beams will vary in length up to 35 metres long and will weigh as much as 160 tonnes (that’s about 23 Tyrannosaurus rex!). Once joined, the beams will create up to 26 bridge spans of the new elevated station.

Local WA owned and operated Delta Corporation manufactures the bridge beams at in Herne Hill using a specially developed type of bridge beam mould and each pour takes approximately a day to complete and seven days to cure.

Based on community feedback, the New Bayswater Station will reflect the town’s important rail heritage once completed, with architectural treatments inspired by the fluting prominent on Perth’s current and past passenger trains.
