METRONET, together with the Department of Transport, Main Roads and Development WA, brought together 31 sustainability-focused WA suppliers to promote awareness of the range of innovative materials and products available for use on METRONET projects, and within the infrastructure delivery industry state-wide.
 
Following two successful forums in 2022, this year's event was even bigger with exhibitors making the most of the space at the Hub at Bentley Technology Park to display some of the largest sustainable products such as electric power loaders, trucks, all-terrain vehicles, mobile solar panels and batteries.

 
“Events like this are a mutually beneficial way of raising awareness of sustainable products and options that can be implemented across METRONET projects and give suppliers the chance to meet decision-makers within government to give a deeper understanding of how products can be utilised,” METRONET Sustainability Support Officer Alita Hancock said. 
 
The METRONET Sustainability Strategy is committed to reducing waste and increasing resource recovery across our projects, in alignment with the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030. Some examples include reusing limestone blocks, steel reinforcement, concrete, ballast, plastic pipes and excavated material.

 
By connecting staff, contractors, and consultants directly to suppliers, initiatives such as the Sustainable Suppliers Forum help facilitate discussions to increase the uptake of sustainable materials across the METRONET program of works.
