Tee-riffic bridge beam installation complete for Thornlie-Cockburn Link - METRONET

Tee-riffic bridge beam installation complete for Thornlie-Cockburn Link

  • 27 July 2022

The final three tee-roff bridge beams have been installed on the new Ranford Road Bridge for the METRONET Thornlie-Cockburn Link Project.

Weighing 200-tonnes, the beams are some of the largest built in Australia!

The beams were manufactured locally by Georgiou Group at a precast facility in Hazelmere, creating more jobs for Western Australians.

The new Ranford Road Bridge will be higher and longer than the original, featuring six general traffic lanes, bus lanes and a shared path on each side. The bridge will cater for an estimated average annual two-way traffic flow of 45,000 vehicles a day by 2031.

When the 17.5km Thornlie-Cockburn Link is operational in late-2024, passengers using Ranford Road Station will be able to travel to Perth in about 29 minutes and have faster access to Optus Stadium.

Local businesses will also see long-term benefits from the Thornlie-Cockburn Link improving access to the area by road and rail.

The final section of the bridge is expected to be fully operational next year.
