Overhead rail structure complete for Victoria Park-Canning Level Crossing Removal

  • 4 September 2023

Another critical preparation milestone for the transformational METRONET Victoria Park-Canning Level Crossing Removal Project has been reached, with the entire overhead rail structure now complete.

The overhead rail structure will be more than four kilometres and be made up of more than 500 precast L-beams, each weighing around 130 tonnes and consisting of approximately eight truckloads of concrete and 13 tonnes of steel!

The beams will be transported from two sites to the Armadale Line rail corridor, and carefully lifted into place by custom-made gantry cranes, imported from Italy.

You can help us name two of the gantry cranes and go in the running to win one of five family tickets to the Perth Royal Show.

The transformational upgrade of the 130-year-old Armadale Line will see seven new stations built, and the delivery of the METRONET Byford Rail Extension.

Thirteen level crossings will also be removed that currently cause significant disruption and congestion to the local community, and the creation of around six hectares of public space that will be turned into new public amenities.
