The place where you live has something special and unique about its identity formed by the local culture, history, landscape and people. One way we can express and celebrate this identity is through public art.
Under the METRONET Public Art Strategy, we incorporate public art into station design across all projects. Each public artwork links to the culture and identity of the station and surrounding area, as well as providing broader social and economic benefits.
Whether it’s a mural, sculpture or digital form of art, the aim is to engage emerging, established and Noongar artists from across Western Australia to create public art that helps strengthen the way people travel and connect to places.
So, where can you expect to see public art on the METRONET Yanchep Rail Extension? Well, to date we’ve identified opportunities to include artwork on the ceilings, concourse areas and platform walls of all three stations.
At Alkimos, artwork is planned for the bulkhead over the main escalators to the platforms. Eglinton will have decorative entry screens and with its large forecourt, while Yanchep will feature artwork at all three shade structures. We are currently in the process of selecting artists for these artworks.
